AQHA Performance Halter Exhibitors Qualification Rule Reminders

As exhibitors and owners of performance halter horses tabulate qualifying points for the 2013 AQHA world championship shows, they are encouraged to review the performance halter qualifying rules.

Horses are required to earn 10 performance points during the respective 2013 world show qualifying period in order to earn an invitation to compete in performance halter at that world show. Performance points must be earned in addition to the requisite performance halter points.

“With qualifying periods winding down for the 2013 world shows, this is a gentle reminder to exhibitors to verify that their horses have earned 10 performance points during the qualification period,” said Tom Persechino, AQHA executive director of competition and breed integrity.

For horses qualifying in youth, amateur and Select amateur performance halter, the 10 performance points may be earned in any division – youth, amateur, Select amateur and open. Showmanship points do not count toward the 10 performance points required.

For open performance halter qualifiers, performance points must be earned in the open division.

Changes to performance halter qualification for the 2012 and 2013 world shows, and onward, were announced in October 2011.

“There was a special consideration for the 2012 world shows given by the AQHA Executive Committee where only five performance points were needed,” Persechino said. “Exhibitors were also informed that the performance-point total would revert to 10 points for the 2013 world shows, so we want to remind them of that as they are looking ahead to spring and summer shows.”

Horses that earn performance halter world championships at any 2012 AQHA world show will receive an invitation to return to the 2013 respective world show. However, those horses will still be required to earn 10 performance points during the qualifying period for the invitation to be honored.

To learn more about performance halter rules, refer to Rule SHW365 in the AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations. The mobile-optimized online handbook can be viewed at www.aqha.com/handbook.

Year-End High-Points

Performance points earned will not cross over to different divisions for performance halter year-end high-point awards. To be eligible to earn a year-end high-point award in performance halter, a horse must earn at least 10 performance points in its respective division(s) (youth, amateur, Select amateur or open) during the award year.

For example, if a horse has 100 performance halter mare points and 16 western pleasure points, and another horse has 135 performance halter points and seven western pleasure points, the second horse is not eligible for the year-end high-point award in performance halter because it has not earned at least 10 performance points during the year.
