AjPHA leaders elected for 2010-2011 term
The American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) directors elected their 2010-2011 Executive Committee and Zone Representatives during the course of the show, following the AjPHA National Convention. AjPHA National Directors represent their state, province, or country. They are responsible for directing association business, including voting on by-law changes and electing the AjPHA Executive Committee. National Directors meet annually at the AjPHA National Convention, and are asked for input on association activities throughout the year. Visit ajpha.com/news for a complete list of 2010-2011 representatives.

Outstanding AjPHA members recognized
One main purpose of the AjPHA program is to build and shape Youth leaders. The Youth Member of the Year, Youth Club of the Year and From the Heart awards recognize those who excel in that capacity, and are presented during the Summer World Show Youth activities.

Lauren Kelly of Brighton, Illinois, was named Youth Member of the Year, and received $1,000 and a custom Gist buckle.

The Club of the Year recognizes outstanding AjPHA regional clubs, which serve to provide an educational and social organization for youth members who share a common interest in the American Paint Horse. AjPHA recognizes the top three clubs with monetary rewards. The Missouri Junior Paint Horse Club was named Club of the Year and received $1,000 sponsored by Carson Underwood; the Gulf Coast Junior Paint Horse Club received $200 for 2nd place; and the Arizona Junior Paint Horse Club received $150 for 3rd place.

APHA corporate partner Markel Insurance sponsors the From the Heart Award, which is presented to the Youth club that demonstrates the most involvement and dedication to the AjPHA's Presidential Service Project. A $500 check from Markel Insurance was presented to the Gulf Coast Junior Paint Horse Club for their support of the 2009-2010 project “Painted Warriors.”

Youth World Games
AjPH A takes the opportunity to highlight the association’s international members every other year at the Summer World Show with the Youth World Games (YWG). The team competition brought Youth from six countries and the United States together to show in four classes: Western horsemanship, showmanship, hunt seat equitation and trail. All of the horses used for the competition were available through the generosity of their owners, and were all shown in World Show classes throughout the week by their youth owners before being shown in YWG classes.

The Dutch Diamonds claimed the overall victory, with Team USA finishing second and Team Germany third overall. Young equestrians from Canada, Australia, Sweden and Austria also made strong showings and represented their countries very well.

TULSA - The Pinto Horse Association of America Inc. announces a new format for its annual fall horse show. The formerly Pinto Congress will become the Color Breed Congress in 2010. This new format will offer classes for horses registered with the PtHA as well as the Palomino Horse Breeders of America, International Buckskin Horse Association and the American Buckskin Registry Association. Adding the three additional breed association classes will bring new horses and colors to the annual fall show. The Color Breed Congress is set for November 3-7, 2010, at The Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex at Expo Square in Tulsa, Okla.

Produced by the Pinto Horse Association of America Inc., the 5-day competition will showcase colorful and talented horses and their exhibitors in a wide array of disciplines including English, western, barrel racing, and halter.

"This show has a reputation for maintaining high quality competition in a very relaxed atmosphere." said Darrell Bilke, Show manager and PtHA Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer. "We are excited to share that with more exhibitors this year and are happy to give our fellow color breeds another opportunity to compete."

Special events at the Color Breed Congress will include a Color Breed Cash Challenge that allows any horse registered with PtHA, IBHA, ABRA, PHBA, Appaloosa Horse Club, and American Paint Horse Association to show and includes: Breeding Stock Pinto, Solid Paint-Bred and Good as Gold Palominos. A Champion of Champions class will also be a noted highlight of the show, bringing back top placers from several classes in each breed to compete against each other.

With the cooler fall weather, the social events held throughout the show will give exhibitors a chance to enjoy the season in Tulsa. Pumpkin Painting for all ages will be available, along with the annual cookout, where exhibitors and Congress visitors can come and mingle with friends and enjoy great food provided by PtHA.

A crowd and exhibitor favorite, the Hula Hoop Hoedown, will return offering the opportunity for the top six from select classes to swing their hips for prizes.

For those that need to stock up on the latest products, plenty of vendors will occupy the Color Breed Congress Trade Show throughout the five days. The vendors offer everything a horse lover could want or need and the trade show is a great place to start Christmas shopping. Tack, supplies, clothing, jewelry, furniture, trucks, trailers and much more merchandise will be available for purchase.

“We encourage all of our members to help get the word out about this exciting and lengthy list of new class offerings for non-professionals who own and ride Solid Paint-Bred horses,” said APHA Director of Amateur Activities & Show Marketing Amy Stapleton. “We hope it will inspire some new faces to come compete at the World level on horses that may not have extensive APHA show records yet.”

The Fall World Championship Paint Horse Show will be held November 4-13, 2010, at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The show will feature all Open and Amateur World competition with the exception of reining and cattle events, which are held during the Summer World Show. Purina recognizes just how critical certain nutritional advantages can be in supporting the healthy structural growth and development of horses. That's why after extensive research and field testing, Purina introduces Ultium® Growth horse formula, a premium nutritional feed specially formulated for broodmares and growing horses. Horse owners can learn more about Ultium® Growth online at http://www.p urinadifference.com/Ultium/.

"Purina® Ultium® Growth horse formula helps support equine growth and development through all stages of pregnancy for the gestating mare," said Purina Equine Nutritionist, Director of Research and New Product Development, Dr. Mary Beth Gordon. "This formulation specifically helps mares meet the nutritional demands during late gestation, helps maintain ideal body weight and body condition during lactation and also supports steady, consistent foal growth and development."

A historic amount of research and field testing spanning more than four years went into the development of Purina® Ultium® Growth horse formula. Initial research began at Purina's Longview Animal Nutrition Center. The 1,188-acre facility, located in Gray Summit, Mo., plays a critical role in the research and development of all Purina® horse feeds. The science and research behind Ultium® Growth horse formula involved monitoring and measuring growth curves, body condition, joint health, activity levels, blood work and more to ensure optimal nutrient delivery to broodmares and growing horses. Purina also performed detailed feeding trials on broodmares and young horses from multiple foal crops that varied in age, breed and management situations across the country.

"Our research team collected millions of data points, and the results were very exciting," said Dr. Gordon. "We created an industry leading formulation proven to support the development, growth and adaptive physiology necessary to help produce a strong, healthy and athletic horse. We were able to develop, test and deliver a new growth feed that translated into a difference horse owners could see in their horses."

For example, broodmares on the study at Longview Animal Nutrition Center fed Ultium® Growth exhibited more consistent body weights from gestation through lactation when the need for nutrients is highest. Broodmares also maintained optimal body condition scores during lactation.

Foals fed the Ultium® Growth formula during research trials sustained higher body weights than foals on a premium control feed. In addition, these young horses demonstrated steady growth curves, indicating smooth, even growth rates, and skeletal growth curves paralleled body weight curves, showing consistent overall growth. In addition, the young horses on Ultium Growth also exhibited higher wither and rump heights and maintained body condition better during weaning.

Ultium® Growth can be fed to foals and young growing horses, including young horses in training, until they reach skeletal maturity, which is two to four years of age, depending on breed.

The data and findings shared by Purina are based upon controlled tests and field trials. Actual results may vary due to genetics and management practices. For more information on Purina® Ultium® Growth horse formula and the exclusive feed trial offer, visit http://www.p urinadifference.com/Ultium/.
