NSBA World Show Winners – Day 7

Day 7, Saturday, August 18, 2017

“I remember seeing her from across the arena last year and thinking, ‘WOW that horse is special!’ You can just tell when they’re special. They just have that look.”

Those were the words that Anthony Montes used to describe, Shes A Lopin Machine, a five-year-old sorrel mare who won the NSBA Color Open Western Riding with Anthony in the driver’s seat. After his run in the BCF 4-6-Year-Old Open Western Riding, fellow trainers complimented the team, calling it “the best run of the morning”. They won that class too. The mare’s owner, Laina Banks bought the mare in June, and describes the mare as simply, “special”.

The goal is for the mare to be Lana’s Amateur horse. “We bought her for her brain because she’s a show horse. She’s better in the show pen than she is outside the show pen. She’s happy, laid back, easygoing about everything.”

Once Lana bought the mare, she placed her in the hands of Anthony. His double win in the Western Riding marks his first ever NSBA wins.

“I’m very fortunate to be able to ride a horse of her caliber and very blessed to be supported by a group of people who care and are willing to give me the opportunity.”

Day 6, Friday, August 17, 2017

Kathy Elmer won the 50+ Non Pro Showmanship World Championship on Friday.

2017 marks Kathy Elmer’s first trip to the NSBA World Championship Show. After she walked out of the Showmanship arena, she admitted that this show is now her favorite. In addition to Kathy enjoying the summer show feeling, friendly atmosphere, and great competition, she also walked away from this show with a 50+ Non Pro Showmanship World Championship, which certainly amped up her reasons for like this show!

“[I am] overwhelmed and grateful. I didn’t know if I could do it and I did. She has owned her gelding, Dynamic Chip Happens, for seven years and has gained much success over the years. After taking a break from showing, Kathy realized that an ordinary life was not her calling and got back in the saddle. She has been hooked again ever since.

“Jackson, (as she affectionately calls her gelding) is a great partnership and has so much personality. With each year that goes by he gets better and better.” She admits that although she loves the all-around, Showmanship is her favorite class. “It’s so personal and you and your horse can bond.” Kathy truly loves horses. She keeps Jackson at home and rides with trainers when she is able, at the shows.

Day 5, Thursday, August 16, 2017

The fifth day at the NSBA World Show shined bright as exhibitors across all disciplines. Today’s winners feature incredible horses, exhibitors and owners who create true champions.

Showing her versatility, Shes Willy Awesome by Winnies Willy has won a western pleasure and trail class at the NSBA World Show.

Shes Willy Awesome, affectionately known as “Booger” has been competing in the Trail arena all week, but switched gears this morning and walked into the $2,500 Limited Rider/$2,500 Horse Western Pleasure class with Clint Ainsworth. “She’s very good in the Trail,” explained Clint. “We were lucky enough to win the 4-5-year-old Trail yesterday. However, a true all-arounder, she has also done well in the Western Pleasure. “They talked me into riding in this class and I have no experience,” laughed Clint, who is obviously more comfortable in classes off the rail. “I was pretty nervous today. While I was out there I was trying to think of everything they told me, to stay relaxed and just implement everything they told me to do. I don’t know if I’m good at [Pleasure] now, but I think the horse was well prepared but I did have fun!”

Day 3, Tuesday, August 14, 2017

The third day of the NSBA World Championship Show started off with a bang and continued until the last class went back to the stalls.

Kristin Galyean and VS Lady In Red graced the Maturity Non Pro Western Pleasure and were awarded two titles in the Maturity Non Pro and Intermediate Non Pro Western Pleasure. Kristin has owned the mare since her weanling year and placed her in training with Gil Galyean. “I’ve had a lot of fun with her. I took her home at the end of the year last year to learn the western riding and we’ll be showing in that later this week.” Kristin continued to praise her mare on her ride this morning. “I think was really good today. We’re still getting to know each other in the show pen, so I think we’re getting the feel of each other. She’s been a lot of fun.”
