Adria Smith Purchases Congress Champion A Lazy Holiday from the Rawlings Family

Adria Smith of Allen, Texas and the owner of the stallion These Irons Are Hot, is excited to announce the purchase of Congress Champion, A Lazy Holiday. This talented 2012 gelding by Lazy Loper and out of Shes On Holiday was owned by Abbey Rawlings of Australia. In 2016, Rawlings and “JD” were Congress Champions in the 12-14 Youth Western Pleasure and bronze winners at the AQHYA World Show in the western pleasure.

“A Lazy Holiday became available as it has always been the plan for Abbey Rawlings to move up to a two-year-old and focus on futurities,” Kristy Starnes told us. “She has a very nice Lazy Loper filly for 2017, so it seemed the time was right to offer him for sale. Adria was the first person we approached with the opportunity to buy JD as we love him and wanted to keep him in our barn.”

Kristy Starnes says that she looks forward to working with this new team.

“JD has a great personality and loves to show. He will make his rider work for it outside the show pen to learn to ride him but he always seems to give 110% in the show arena,” Kristy told us. “We thought JD and Adria would be a good match as Adria wants to learn more about the western pleasure and JD is such a fun horse to show and ride. He really complements her hunter under saddle horse, Carson, as well as they are very similar in personalities.”

rawlingsAdria adds, “I am beyond blessed to own this horse. I look forward to showing JD in 2017 and expanding my riding ability under the guidance of Jay and Kristy Starnes.”

Smith and JD will be making their debut soon in Venice, Florida in the Novice Amateur, Amateur, and Non-Pro Western Pleasure. Their future goals are to qualify for the 2017 AQHA World Show.

“Adria also has a very fancy coming two-year-old filly out of Its A Southern Thing that we hope she will be able to show in the future with the skills she acquires from riding and showing JD,” Kristy says.
