During the past two weeks, the top exhibitors and horses from around the world competed at the 2016 Lucas Oil AQHA World Championship Show at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. The 2016 Farnam All-Around Amateur Award is presented to the exhibitor and horse team that earns the most points in three or more Level 3 amateur events in three categories during the show. This year, 13 contenders qualified to compete for the title.
Julie Cole of Burlington Flats, New York, was crowned the 2016 Farnam All-Around Amateur. Cole showed her American Quarter Horse, Size Matters. The 2005 sorrel gelding, who is by Natural Iron and out of Bostons Black Pearl, was bred by Christine Davis of Bainbridge, New York.
Cole is the first back-to-back Farnam All-Around Amateur since her trainer, Karen Evans Mundy, achieved that honor in 2003 with Ask Me For Details. Mundy then went on to win the title for the third year in a row in 2004. Cole is also the first all-around amateur to win the title under a trainer who won the all-around amateur title during that trainer’s amateur career. Mundy won the AQHA World Show all-around title a record eight times during her amateur career.
Cole and Size Matters earned a total of 46 points by earning the reserve world championship title in amateur hunt seat equitation and placing third in amateur working hunter and amateur hunter hack, fourth in equitation over fences and eighth in amateur jumping. The pair received a prize package that included $15,000, plus $1,000 in Farnam products, an original Lisa Perry Bronze and a rose bouquet.
The 2016 Farnam Reserve All-Around Amateur is Angela Fox of Carrollton, Texas (pictured left). Fox showed her American Quarter Horse, The Company You Keep. The 2011 bay gelding, who is by One Hot Krymsun and out of Zipped Tight, was bred by Donna Morgan of Pilot Point, Texas. The pair earned 28 points by winning the world championship title in showmanship and placing fourth in the performance halter geldings.
The Farnam Reserve All-Around Amateur won a prize package that included$5,000, plus $500 in Farnam products and a silver bowl.
Placing third was Brittany Morgan of Brawley, California. Morgan showed her American Quarter Horse, Huntin For Fun. The 2003 chestnut gelding, who is by Huntin For Chocolate and out of Pass The Tee, was bred by Stanley and Susan Scott of Ocala, Florida. The pair earned 17.5 points by placing fourth in showmanship and seventh in hunt seat equitation.
Placing fourth was Scott Allen Reinartz of Fort Lauderdale, Florida (pictured right). Reinartz showed his American Quarter Horse, Investin A Goodbar. The 2009 sorrel gelding, who is by Ima Zippo Good Bar and out of Foxy Asset, was bred by Jim Dudley of Columbia, Missouri. The pair earned 10 points by placing fifth in amateur pleasure driving and seventh in amateur performance halter geldings.
Placing fifth was Jenny Martin of Wells, Texas. Martin showed the American Quarter Horse Dirty Sexy Money, owned by Janet and Kent Martin of Wells, Texas. The 2007 gray gelding, who is by Sheiks Big Leaguer and out of Fight Over Emmie (TB), was bred by Melissa Ann Miller of Belton, Texas. The pair earned seven points by placing fourth in amateur pleasure driving.
The third- through fifth-place winners each received a prize package that included $1,500, plus $250 in Farnam products. The Farnam All-Around Amateur awards are made possible by AQHA Corporate Partner Farnam. AQHA also presented the 2016 Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau Leading Owner Award at the Lucas Oil World. The Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau Leading Owner Award is given to the American Quarter Horse ownership that earns the most points at the Lucas Oil World. To be eligible for the award, at least three horses must be entered and shown. All horses must be in the same single ownership identification, as listed on the official entry form. Points were accumulated and tabulated on all horses shown in both Level 3 and Level 2 classes.
Thomas (pictured left) and Mimsi Roe Coon of Pilot Point, Texas, were named the 2016 Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau Leading Owner. The Coons’ American Quarter Horses earned a total of 117 points by competing in 17 classes. Their top honors include the world championship titles in weanling fillies and amateur 3-year-old geldings, and the reserve championship titles in amateur weanling stallions, amateur 2-year-old mares and amateur weanling fillies.
The Oklahoma City Leading Owner received a prize package that included a specially commissioned bronze, presented by the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau, and a bouquet of flowers
