Its A Southern Thing Has Exciting News Heading in to the Congress

Amy Gumz’s AQHA Reserve World Champion stallion, Its A Southern Thing, has made his mark in the show pen and has started making his mark in the breeding arena with his first foals hitting the show pen this year. “Moonpie” made history at the 2015 AQHA World Show with his incredible Reserve World Champion performance in the Junior Western Riding finals with Jamie Dowdy in the saddle.

His owner, Amy Gumz of Gumz Farm is excited to announce that her talented stallion has a brand new website that can be found at www.itsasouthernthing.net

“Although his old website was really fun and theme oriented, everyone has to grow up including Moonpie,” Gumz told us about her six-year-old stallion. “Since he has now retired (from the show pen), Equine Video Creations has given him a more mature look.”

Gumz adds, “We are still adding foals and final touches, but the site is a great source of information, photos and videos. We also have digital contracts that can be executed from your phone or computer as well as the standard hard copies. The new site also has an early glimpse into the Congress breeding special prices so the early bird can get a jump on the lowest fees of the 2017 season.”hey_yall Ricky Noiseux its a southern thing © Sarah Rosciti

Its A Southern Thing’s Offspring

“I see that Moonpie is consistently stamping his foals with lots of size and looks. However, I am most thrilled with their top lines and the tremendous amount of lift I see coming from their shoulders,” Gumz says. “You can definitely walk through our pastures and tell what is a Minipie.”

Additionally, “We are blessed that his babies have been so well received – selling exceptionally well privately as well as at the NSBA sale with the high selling filly, Southern Ventures, at $50,000. We are excited that we have two of his five babies showing at the Congress. This is out of our initial test crop of five babies. Its A Pretty Thing (pictured left) is showing in the Masters with Shane Dowdy and Hey Yall (pictured right) is showing in the Coughlin with Ricky Noiseux.”

“I didn’t raise our Masters entry (Its A Pretty Thing) and it took a year and a half to buy her,” Gumz explains “She was the one outside mare we bred. Kelsey Tumey raised her, and I finally got her bought as a long yearling. Besides having the look and wow factor, she’s just a tremendous mover. I think she’s better and a little tighter mover than her sire, so Moonpie is doing what he is supposed to be doing and out-siring himself. Shane Dowdy saw her at the colt breakers and promptly put her on the trailer for his house. So when he says he stole her, he’s not kidding! She’s been super easy and quiet. She does so much naturally, she’s come along without the gimmicks. We are very excited for her future.”

Congress Breeding Specials

“We don’t have a booth at Congress this year, but I’ll be around with all sorts of cool Moonpie gear!” Gumz states. “It will be my first time with no booth in many, many years. All of the breeding specials on all studs can be found online. It’s really the best value and guaranteed lowest pricing of the upcoming season.”
