Abigail Pait Leaves as One of School’s Best

Equestrian senior Abigail Pait will leave South Carolina with rings on a lot of fingers and a trophy case full of honors.

Pait and her senior equestrian teammates won either a national championship or SEC championship in three of their four years on campus. Pait was also the first rider in Gamecocks history to earn All-SEC Tournament honors in horsemanship, but her biggest honor came a few days later.

A Sparta, New Jersey native, Pait was named an NCEA All-American to cap a tremendous four-year run at South Carolina.

Following the student-athlete ring ceremony in May, Pait was able to reflect on what the last four years at South Carolina meant to her.

“Becoming a national champion was pretty special,” Pait said. “I was just very fortunate to be surrounded by amazing teammates and amazing coaches. I’ve learned a lot and grew up a lot here. I’m very fortunate to have had this opportunity. I’ve really enjoyed Columbia and the friends I’ve made because of athletics.”

Pait was named Team MVP at the Gamecock Gala, an award voted on by her teammates. She posted a 10-4-1 record this season with four Most Outstanding Performer awards.
