The December issue of GoMag is an opportunity for our advertisers to highlight their success from the Congress and/or World Shows, to thank their clients or trainers, as well as generate business for the holidays. The December issue also kicks off the beginning of the 2016 breeding season and this issue features many great stallions from which to choose.

The last issue of GoMag for 2015 also gives us a chance to reflect on the past year. GoMag was the very first digital magazine of its kind when we launched in 2008 and continues to be the industry leader. We are extremely grateful to all of our loyal customers for making 2015 our strongest year which included our biggest issue ever in October. We look forward to 2016 and wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.

About the Cover

The stunning 2009 AQHA/APHA/PtHA stallion, Living Large, draws attention wherever he goes. At this year’s AQHA World Show, trainer Kevin Dukes and “Shaq” earned the title of AQHA Reserve World Champion in the Senior Pleasure Driving, and in doing so, made AQHA history.

“When I picked up my trophy, the AQHA Executive Committee told me that we made history,” Dukes recalls. “This was the first time any horse with his amount of color has done so well at the AQHA World Show.”

Dukes shares, “Personally, I don’t care if a horse is pink. If he is the best horse in the pen, he should win. However, some people are not sure what to think about his loud color. I am just blessed and thankful that the judges looked at the horse and his talent and didn’t hold his loud color against him. I think he is paving the way for a lot of other horses that are double registered.”

If you didn’t know his back story, one would immediately assume that Shaq was a paint. But, when he trots into an AQHA class, you realize there’s definitely more to the story. The multiple World Champion is out of the thoroughbred mare, Quit Staring, who is a rare loud colored black and white thoroughbred. He is also by World Champion sire, These Irons Are Hot. This cross makes, Living Large, a full appendix quarter horse with white markings. It also made him eligible to be registered as a cropout paint and compete at APHA and PtHA shows.

Shaq has been very impressive in his short show career. Shaq is a nine-time APHA/PtHA World Champion. In AQHA competition, he is a two-time Reserve Congress Champion in Junior Pleasure Driving, Reserve Congress Champion in the Amateur Pleasure Driving, and now an AQHA Reserve World Champion in the Senior Pleasure Driving.

In 2016, Dukes says he will be adding the hunter events to his repertoire. “Shaq is showing considerable talent in the jumping events, and he will be making his debut in Florida at the beginning of the year.”
