Ready for NSBA World: Lisa Mazurka and Invested In Cowboys

There is a new team to watch for in the amateur all-around events. Lisa Mazurka of Sutton, Massachusetts and Invested In Cowboys have started showing this year in the performance halter geldings, showmanship, horsemanship and trail.

“We are amazed at how quickly he has picked up the skills for these events and how talented he is,” says Mazurka. “We are also quite impressed with the great mindset and easygoing nature he has maintained since we added all of these new classes to his plate.”

Last year, Invested In Cowboys was the AQHA World Reserve World Champion in Open Performance Halter Geldings with Gretchen Mathes. Trainer Gene Spagnola also showed him in the trail and western riding.

“I let them build a strong foundation on the horse while I continued to show my other gelding, Pine Chexed,” says Mazurka, who bought the 2010 sorrel gelding by RL Best Of Sudden from Steve Reams. “It worked out quite nicely because we were in no rush and took our time putting a very strong foundation and skill set on the horse.”

The strong foundation is definitely paying off.  Invested In Cowboys is currently leading the nation in AQHA Junior Green Western Riding and is top-10 in the nation in Level 3 Junior Western Riding and Junior Trail.  Success at the Redbud Spectacular and Big A have earned him Reserve Open High Point award titles at these prestigious shows.

lisa 2Affectionately known as “Mudflap”, Mazurka says that his personality seems to fit his name. “When I first learned of his name, I had to ask Gene three times to be sure I heard it right,” she says and laughs. “Although a bit leery at first, the name really does suit him and has grown on me. Mudflap is so easy going and quiet. He is quite athletic and things just come easy for him. He is a people pleaser and always wants to do his job and never wants to be in trouble.”

Lisa adds, “Gene and I have this joke about what he would be like if he were a person. We compare him to the handsome, charismatic superstar high school quarterback who knows he’s handsome and talented and seems to have the world at his feet. Success and likability come easy to him.”

Mazurka and Invested In Cowboys are also qualified for the AQHA World Show in the Level 3 Horsemanship, Trail, and Performance Halter Geldings, but their next stop is right around the corner at the NSBA World Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Watch for this exciting new team in the open and amateur all-around events under the supervision of Powder Brook Farms.
