PF Candids and Rundown from Merial AQHA Region Six Championships

The tenth annual Merial AQHA Region Six Championship show was recently held in Springfield, Massachusetts, July 14 through the 19th. This popular show offered six sets of AQHA points over six days. The judges for the show included Jill Newcomb, Scott Neuman, Stephen Stephens and Larry Little. Region Six is an organization that is designed to bring together members of the Northeast Affiliates including the states of: Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and their friends to the north, the Maritimes and Quebec.

“There was strong competition, great exhibitor parties, and wonderful prizes,” says competitor Heather Lange of Norwalk, Connecticut. “I especially love watching the Novice Youth exhibitors when they win a buckle or a ribbon in their class.”

For years, one of the cornerstone events of the Region 6 Experience is the Ladies Western Pleasure. This event features trainers and exhibitors who dress up for an amazing cause while they are auctioned off. The proceeds from the event benefit the Baystate Children’s Hospital, and it is a guaranteed fun break from showing on a Friday night.

This year, there was a head to head competition between trainers Jeremy Mimitz from Skyz The Limit Performance Horses in South Windsor, Connecticut, and Ricky Noiseux, assistant trainer at Buckley Quarter Horses in Preston, Connecticut. Mimitz was first to enter, dressed as Caitlyn Jenner, and Noiseux entered second as Kim Kardashian with a friend who walked in dressed as Kanye West.

The crowd was full of laughter and cheered for “Caitlyn” and “Kim,” and Mimitz defended his title of the highest bid against Noiseux. In total, $800 was raised for the Baystate Children’s Hospital, and the attendees had a lot of laughs watching the two perform. While the crowd was deadlocked on who won the pleasure class, Noiseux walked away with a chair after winning a spinning contest.

The Region 6 show this year was spectacular, with multiple exhibitor parties that included an “Aisle Hop” where each barn provided much needed snacks and themed tables after a nearly 12 hour trail day.
