Virginia Owen of Greenville, South Carolina and her teammate, One Lazy Investment are ready to prove themselves at the 2015 AQHYA World Show. While Lazy and Kenny Lakins were the 2012 AQHA Reserve World Champions in the Senior Western Pleasure and the 2011 AQHA World Champions in the Junior Western Pleasure, Virginia and Lazy are still searching for that illusive first world championship title. This duo is ready for this to be their year to bring home the gold.

Last year, Virginia and Lazy received the bronze trophy in the western pleasure at the AQHYA World Show and were Reserve Congress Champions in the 15-18 Youth Western Pleasure under the guidance of Kenny and Ashley Lakins of Wilmington, Ohio. In 2012, the team was unanimous Congress Champions in the Youth 12-14 Western Pleasure.

“Lazy’s personality is the best,” Virginia told us. “As he has gotten older, he’s become more of a teddy bear than ever. He can be very pushy at times, but he knows when I’m not in the mood and usually stops. I only have to tell him twice!”

The 18 year-old took this year off to concentrate on her youth career before heading to college and she is hoping for the University of Georgia. Virginia says that her youth career up to this point has been very memorable.

“I love showing because it challenges me to do my best in everything I do, both inside and out of the show pen,” Virginia said. “Preparation is ninety percent of the work. When you show a horse, to me, you are showing your preparation outside of the show pen. When you walk into the show pen, you are allowing others to judge you on how well you have prepared the horse and yourself. It’s very difficult to have the best ride or pattern every time, but when you do, it’s the best feeling ever and people will notice that when you come out of that pen with a mile long smile on your face.”

Watch for Lazy and Virginia at the AQHYA World Show in the western pleasure and in the near future showing in the western riding, trail, and horsemanship.
