What’s Your Dream Horse? Professionals and Exhibitors Describe Their Perfect Horse

Throughout the years our industry has seen a variety of remarkable horses and unparalleled talent that individuals consider to be found in their dream horse. We took the time to ask some of today’s trainers as well as exhibitors what qualities their dream horse would have such as ideal color, height, and discipline. Let’s find out what everyone had to say. Some of them had very creative answers!

We would love our readers to also describe their dream horse on our Facebook page or in the comments section of this article.

ted turnerTed Turner, Jr – Horses today need to be pretty to look at, therefore, my dream horse would be a bay halter horse that stands around 15.3 to 16 hands. It must be all that and good to look at.

shane dowdyShane Dowdy – My dream horse would be a 15′ 1 buckskin mare, ebony black points, black mane and tail with big kind eyes. She would have voice commands, rather than spur and rein commands, but could not talk so as not to tattle on me. She would have the self discipline to prepare herself to be top five in the cutting at the AQHA World Show; beat Jason Martin and my wife in the western riding at the AQHA World Show and Rusty Green in the western pleasure at the AQHA World Show. Her name would be Gloria Grace. That’s my version of a dream horse.

erin bradshawErin Bradshaw – My  dream horse would be a black Andalusia stallion with a mane and tail that drags the ground. I’ve ALWAYS wanted one!

brad ostBrad Ost – I would want a Pegasus as my horse, so it could fly me to the horse shows and I would not have to drive. It would be quadruple registered so it could show in the APHA, AQHA, ApHC and AHA and win all of them. My dream horse would also be white.

saraSarah Rosciti – My dream horse is a 16.3h gray colt/gelding out of my mare, Anna. I want him to trot like his grandma, Hey Blue Eyes, and canter like Zee Yellow Jacket!

dave archerDave Archer – I would love a bay mare that acts like a gelding and never has soundness issues. She would change leads like the famous Harley D Zip, so then she can teach me how to do the western riding.

Aint Gota Lot and Beth Case Win Sun Circuit Green HUS StakesBeth Case – My dream horse is big, bay and beautiful. He would be great legged, great minded, and easy to ride. He never would grow winter hair so he would not need a blanket. Also, he would have such a thick tail that he would not need a fake one, and he would never have soreness issues.

brittany morganBrittany Morgan – I feel like I have my dream horses.  I absolutely love the all-around events, so I am always looking for a horses that is very athletic, good size not huge because I’m not very tall. The horse needs to be able to move out for the hunt seat equitation while being able to have a slow rhythm for the trail.  I also love my horses to be a little fiery!  I think they’re fun to show when they have some fire in them, makes them able to show and work all day long.  That being said, I do believe I own my dream horses at the moment which is pretty amazing.  My all-around horse, Huntin For Fun, is super athletic and a bit of a punk, but can go out and win the Amateur Pleasure and in the same day win the hunt seat equitation. Also, Lil Bit Western–my showmanship and trail horse is awesome. I couldn’t ask for a better horse for those events– he is fiery, but steady and trustworthy.

brianne porterBreanne Porter – I would love to have a buttermilk buckskin mare for breeding, preferably between 15 to 16 hands. She would need to excel in the western pleasure, but tall enough so that her babies can do the all around if I breed her to our stallion, Hubba Hubba Huntin.

debbiDebbi Trubee – Invitation Only (pictured above) is my dream horse. He is the epitome of form to function with an eye as big as your fist, which shows his intelligence and kindness. He is dark brown with a low tail set, deep heart girth, low hocks, and a neck that comes straight out. My dream horse would be a clone of him. As a lifelong horsewoman who has made a study of form to function, when you look at Invitation Only, it is perfectly clear why he is who he is.  We’ll never see another like him in our industry.

Jason SmithJason Smith – My dream horse would be a sorrel stud with two white back legs. It would be very symmetrical and balanced with a long neck and a pretty head. It would have eyes like saucers and fox ears. It would have adequate muscles throughout along with straight and correct legs.

LainieLainie DeBoer – This is pretty easy because I currently own my dream horse and have for the past 10 years named, True Companion; “Sporty”.  He is a beautiful bay gelding, 16.1 hand, working hunter horse.  He is the kindest and best minded horse I have ever owned.  He is easy to train, has balanced gaits, is a beautiful mover and has a rhythmic canter.  Sporty jumps athletic and is brave at every jump but still studies it and is respectful of the height.  I can get to any show and hop right on him and go into any ring without any spook–no lunging or all night riding.  He has the most beautiful big brown eyes and has the best expression.  His ears are always forward and he is happy all the time. The best part is when you give him a big hug; he wraps his head around my back and hugs me back.

katy joKaty Jo Zuidema – When I was a little girl, my dream horse was GM Elegant Mac. I thought he was amazing. I showed only the hunt seat then and he was my ideal hunt seat horse. Huge, grey, a big trotter and a great loper. But the first horse that ever knocked me over was One Red Hot Zip. I almost followed that horse around. His top line and self carriage to this day is almost unequaled in my eyes in the western riding and the western pleasure. Today, my focus has changed a bit on my dream horse. I still want pretty and self-carriage but mostly I want them to like their job. It makes for a much more enjoyable experience all the way around. They’re easier to train, to show, and to teach on. That makes me happy.

scott jonesScott Jones – My dream horse is a big brown mare with two hind socks and a small star that trots big and canters flat kneed. Of course, it would be a hunter under saddle horse.

hilaryHilary Roberts – This might be a clichĂ© answer, but my dream horses are the ones I’ve got. When I was starting out, I just wanted to be like the big girls and get my name called in a class full of tough competition. Long John (Chrome On My Zipper) and Candi (Whatscookngoodlookin) have given me the ability to do that and so much more.
